The Role
The Senior Accountant is a full-time position reporting to the Accounting Manager. The Senior Accountant will play a very important role in the monthly financial close & reporting process. This individual must possess great attention to detail, strong financial acumen, and a high aptitude for leveraging technology and financial systems.

The Senior Accountant will have a broad range of responsibilities involving all aspects of the monthly financial close, GL responsibilities, and fulfilling the internal and external reporting requirements.

Your Task

  • Prepare, review, upload journal entries relating to assigned accounts with supporting schedules
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations of assigned accounts, and provide analysis of complex balance sheet movements
  • Manage fixed asset additions, disposals and impairments to ensure appropriateness with US GAAP and internal capitalization policies, review invoices to ensure assets are appropriately being capitalized or expensed, and partner with business owners to ensure assets are being placed in-service and retired timely and accurately
  • Manage all US cash related activity, including daily upload of cash activity from CashPro to general ledger, recording of monthly cash activity into general ledger, reconciliation of bank statements to general ledger, and researching/resolving any un-reconciled cash transactions timely and accurately
  • Prepare quarterly reporting package and flux explanations for assigned accounts
  • Assist with the preparation of various tax and audit schedules
  • Support management in completing special projects, ad-hoc reporting and analysis requests, and other tasks as assigned

Your Skills

  • BA or BS with an emphasis in accounting, required
  • Public accounting experience preferred; CPA a plus
  • 4 – 6 years of general ledger accounting, preferably with a combination of public and corporate accounting experience in progressively responsible roles
  • Oracle 11i experience required; Oracle R12 a plus
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in the use of spreadsheet programs and other software applications for financial analysis
  • Ability to quickly acclimate to complex financial accounting applications
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills, including the ability to effectively present information to various levels of an organization

The Role
The Director of Financial Planning and Strategic Analytics will be responsible for planning activities, reporting financial results, and providing financial leadership to the business to support executive level decision making. They will work with the General Manager to cultivate a data-driven culture, rationalize investments and develop strategies to grow profitability. They will surface trends and insights about key metrics to inform product, traffic and monetization strategies.

The Task

  • Provide financial leadership including P&L and OPEX oversight
  • Lead the financial planning processes including annual operating plan and monthly forecast updates with focus on traffic, monetization, revenue, opex, and headcount
  • Deliver monthly and quarterly reporting packages to executive management and corporate office
  • Perform variance analyses to identify the drivers of variances to budget and prior period
  • Capital planning for both capital purchases as well as capitalization of internal projects.  Updates to depreciation projections reports, CIP, and forecast
  • Partner with accounting during month end close to ensure timely and accurate financial results.  Includes oversight of close as well as accruals
  • Evaluate sales, editorial and product performance to provide actionable insights with an eye towards accelerating traffic and monetization growth
  • Develop and deploy analytical methodologies for monitoring business KPIs to identify emerging trends, develop forward looking projections, and provide insights about the drivers of performance
  • Apply statistical expertise to study correlations between site and value ad metrics in order to understand the drivers of performance and indicators of user experience (example, bounce rate and retention)
  • Evaluate large data sets with sophisticated quantitative analyses and develop advanced models that translate data into actionable insights in order to solve difficult, non-routine problems
  • Deliver insights and strategic recommendations to Executive Management
  • Coordinate key processes for financial and operational planning (monthly finance reviews, weekly business reviews, etc)

You

  • 7+ years financial planning & analysis or related experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field, with statistics course work (e.g. economics, statistics)
  • Experience in internet advertising, internet search, e-commerce or related field
  • Demonstrated forecasting skills and understanding of business financial structures
  • Experience providing decision support to senior management
  • Comfortable managing meetings and interfacing with executive management team
  • Expert in Excel and proficient in Word and Powerpoint
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Hyperion Essbase and Oracle Discoverer helpful

Your Task

  • Detailed financial research and analysis of companies, markets and investment products to support the editorial team and attract a larger, more loyal audience interested in current investing, corporate news, and global economic stories and trends;
  • Responsible for writing detailed timely financial reports pertaining to investing decisions for all life stages and sophistication levels, including professional traders and analysts;
  • Work with editorial team to craft stories and create multimedia content including infographics and market data to accompany Investopedia’s content and products;

You

  • Must have an intimate knowledge of banking and investing products including stocks, indices, mutual funds, ETFs, bonds, options, futures, commodities and forex;
  • Must be comfortable reading, interpreting and synthesizing 10Q and 10K reports;
  • Ability to quickly sort through masses of market and industry data and understand what matters and why;
  • Ability to conceive story ideas that run ahead of the news and generate wide interest or ‘buzz’ among a business and financial audience, including stories on or relating to investing/trading decisions, major corporations, c-suite executives or Wall Street;
  • Fluent with financial concepts and calculations i.e. present value, p/e ratios, etc. and able to craft a narrative and specific point of view from the data;
  • Passion for detail and accuracy a must, this is a highly detail-oriented role
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, statistics, economics, accounting, journalism, communications or related fields.
  • Experience working with content management systems, social media platforms and other Web publishing and analytics tools;
  • Experience with financial modeling and investment research tools and software a plus;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and proven experience working with freelancers;
